a dresser re-do
There's a saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." Just so you know, it's so true.
Heiko and I have been looking for a new dresser for our daughter for a long time. The problem was that we couldn’t find one that we liked that was in our price range, insert Craigslist. I found this beauty for $55 dollars!! I know, not so cute, but she had potential and she was totally within our price range. I have wanted to paint and/or refurnish a piece of furniture for awhile now but was scared. All of my past attempts met with, we’ll just say very poor results.
I knew there was a secret trick out there that everyone but me knew about and I was determined to find it and I DID! This project was so easy to do that we’ve decided to try our hand at it on a regular basis. 2010 is all ready off to a good start!
Supplies Needed:
Piece of furniture
Paint roller and cheap foam brushes
Zinsser Primer (1 quart) cover stain, stain blocker, bond coat in white
The Secret - (1 quart) Benjamin Moore Low Lustre Metal and Wood Enamel (Black 363 80)
Krylon brushed metallic satin nickel finish spray paint (for the handles)
Krud Kutter - degreaser
Directions:
Step 1: You can sand your dresser (way to much work for me) or give it a good scrub down with the degreaser and let dry
Step 2: Remove your dresser handles
Step 3: Add a coat of the Zinsser Primer to your dresser and let dry
Step 4: Spray paint your dresser handles and let dry
Step 5: Paint your dresser with the Benjamin Moore paint - 1 coat is all that is needed!
Step 6: Add your handles back to your dresser and that’s it!!
