make a design statement in any room

make a design statement in any room

Want to make a statement in any room of your home? Decorate with multiples. By adding multiples of accessories you are adding visual drama and interest.

**The following article was written by guest contributor, Amber Hyatt.**

Try this with mirrors, vases, picture frames, pillows, or art work.  This design tip is loved by the professionals, as multiples enhance the effect on the space by instantly capturing your focus.  Multiples allow you to control how subtle or dramatic the effect.  To play up the drama, take a note from my living room.  The wall above my couch is adorned with six (2 rows of 3) lovely Crate and Barrel Dubois mirrors.  This technique also is visually appealing in the bedroom above your headboard or even dresser.

crate and barrel mirrors

Too bold for your taste?  You cannot go wrong with simple glass hurricanes filled with cream candles positioned strategically.  Mix up the size and shape of the glass hurricanes, but keep the candle color the same to unify the look.  Varying height and width of the glass hurricanes is vital to create visual depth.  This look works especially well on large fireplace mantles, side tables, or as the dining room table centerpiece.

crate and barrel Nothing is more inviting then a throw pillow on a couch.  Ditch the misconception that a couch should never have more than 2 throw pillows.  The more the merrier, but use restraint if you feel the pillows are no longer accent pieces and start taking over the couch.  Add visual interest by varying size of the pillow and type of fabric.  It’s perfectly fun to try out different prints, patterns, and solids all together, however keep to a similar color story to unite the space.
