microfiber: a family’s best friend

My painter’s tarp above the hard wood floor and I’m free to explore any color combination that I desire, or so I recently thought.  My husband had been giving our adorable Cairn terrier, Oliver, a bath.  As soon as he opened up our master bedroom door Oliver shot out like a rocket and leaped onto the wet golden yellow, brown, and burnt red hues spread on my large canvas.  He slid through half the canvas before both my hubby and I could holler “NO!”  Scarred by the tone of our voices he jumped onto the chaise of our sectional with his paws covered in acrylic paint.  As we reached for him he scurried across 3 additional couch cushions before we could grab him.  All I could think is that my acrylic paint does not come off my clothes, how could it come off our sectional from Bloomingdales?

We immediately applied dawn dish soap and warm water and the stains disappeared!  I was amazed and now forever sold on microfiber furnishings.  Not only is microfiber soft and comfy, it’s practical for any family. No need for a slipcover when you can immediately scrub out your stain, and keep your fabric looking brand new.  Best of all, the price is much more economical when compared to authentic leather, or even similar feeling velvet.  The color palette is very versatile now, with a large array of options.

When purchasing the couch it’s best to discuss with the salesperson if they recommended any stain repellents.  Ours did not, since Microfiber is so durable and your typical Scotch Guard uses acetone which is not recommended for polyester fabric like microfiber.  Another option to discuss would be a product called SunArmor water and stain protection.  This product will allow the stain to roll off, instead of setting into the fabric.  (Check out this article for additional details on SunArmor water and stain protection.)  Any sales person will tell you regardless of using a repellent, that microfiber is a popular option for its intense durability, and when caught when the stain is fresh it can be easily removed with a little dish soap and water.  Thank goodness for one less thing to worry about!
