I participate in leading a monthly mom’s ministry at my church. It has been a great source of inspiration and grounding for my parenting and my marriage. During this past meeting, an idea was shared that has changed my outlook on summer and the overwhelming feeling I get from wanting to do everything right now. It’s such a simple concept, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself. Isn’t that the way things go?
Are you ready for it?
Lists.
The part that motivates me is the idea of making separate wish lists for my husband and I, our family adventures and even at-home adventures. The thought is to make lists and review them as a family. This way, you can plan ahead for the activities that require more effort.
Here is my list to date: (We live blocks from the beach and love the sun + water)
Billy + Me:
At least one adults-only trip to the beach to relax.
Go fishing on the boat in the intracoastal.
Take the jetski to dinner on the water.
A weekend away (destination to be determined).
Family Activities:
Take the boat to a beach other than our own for fishing/playing in the sand.
Abby’s first trip to Disney (depending on the heat)
Girls trip with grandmas, aunts + cousins to pick fruit (blueberries/strawberries)
Mom + daughter pedicures (Abby’s first)
Date night with Daddy (This already occurs a couple of times a month)
Outdoor movies
Annual family photo shoot
At Home Activities:
Practice handwriting skills and phonics.
Many spur-of-the-moment trips to the neighborhood pool with friends.
Thursday night cul de sac gatherings with neighbors (we are so blessed to have such awesome neighbors).
Host a tea party
We are trying to maintain a relaxed and flexible schedule this summer so I don’t want to cram our free time. During this relaxed time, I plan to spend more time with our families, too!
Here’s to summer! And, for those of you (like me) who realize a great joy from crossing things of the list, peace be with you!
lists being your thing, I am also surprized you didn’t think of it yourself! hehe
thanks for sharing.
