homemade chocolate peanut butter balls
These are so delicious my kids eat them by the dozens!
Feel free to experiment and make other fun shapes with this recipe. Hearts for Valentines Day, trees for Christmas, leaves for fall. The versitality of this recipe is limited only to your imagination.
Ingredients
1 jar of peanut butter
3-5 c. of powdered sugar - ( you are looking for play-doh consistently)
1 stick of butter (or margarine)-softened
1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate morsels
3 T. shortening
**Optional: you can add rice krispies, peanuts, or anything else you might like.
This is a great recipe to make with your kids
In a large mixing bowl, combine peanut butter and the stick of butter. Stir until very creamy. Slowly start to stir in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time. You want the mixture to be the consistency of play-doh. It shouldn’t be sticky and should easily form into one big ball. Once it’s to this point, you won’t need to add anymore powdered sugar, Scoop a spoonful of the yummy peanut butter mixture into your hands and roll into a ball. Place the balls on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the chocolate morsels with the shortening for 1 minute. Stir and reheat for another 15 seconds, stirring again. Continue to do this until the chocolate is completely melted (If the chocolate seems to thick and fudgey, add a bit more shortening.) You want it to be almost runny. Remove the balls from the fridge and using a fork, dip into the chocolate one at a time. Place the balls on the wax paper to set,. Refridgerate again for about 15 minutes. Then stand back the stampade is on it’s way - Enjoy!
