There has to be better and cheaper cleaning methods out there. So I am posing the question to you. What are some ways that you cut corners with your cleaning supplies?
Here are a few ways that we save money on our cleaning supplies
1. Shop with coupons (come on, you totally knew I was going there)
2. Instead of using dryer sheets I buy liquid fabric softener and dilute it with water 1/2 and 1/2. Then I’ll dampen a rag with the solution (wring out the rest back into the bottle) and toss it into the dryer -
3. We use microfiber cloths instead of paper towels. They are super-absorbent (you’ve seen the commercials) and you can just throw them into the washer and dryer. Of course, if you get creative you can add some Velcro to the top and bottom of the cloths and have them attach to each other then wrap them around your paper towel holder at home. I do love convenience. ![]()
4. I use old newspapers to clean the bathroom mirrors and windows of our house - no streaks!
5. The Dollar Store - I’ve found that sponges, cleaners and scouring pads are much cheaper at the Dollar Stores than at the regular grocery and/or discount stores (even with coupons.)

I use to spend on average around $80/month for cleaning supplies. I may only use a tenth of that now. Vinegar is GREAT and at $1.25 you can’t beat it (you can get it cheaper if you look around) this will clean almost anything. Baking Soda, accompaning Vinegar and now you have the scubbing power of the scubbing bubbles. Ammonia is my other “secret”, my floors have NEVER looked better, and of course it can be used anywhere that vinegar can too. $3.00 + laundry detergent, and my house is cleaner…PS Ammonia on glass top stove top is GREAT!! and as a gentle reminder it is the Ammonia in the cleaning agent in 95% of cleaning products…
I go to the dollar store if I need cleaning supplies. It is a lot cheaper than going to the grocery store.
