all good moms won an oscar last night- WOOHOO!

I’ve always loved Sandra Bullock but now I love her more. I wanted to be her in A Time To Kill because of her oh so hunky co-star and laughed until my sides hurt at her comedies like Miss Congeniality.
I have to admit that I haven’t even seen The Blind Side yet. But I was so surprised at her Oscar acceptance speech last night, in a good way. After some really funny comments, she mainly thanked “what this film was about for me, which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from.” She then thanked her own mom, who died in 2000: “for not letting me ride in cars with boys until I was 18, because she was right. I would have done what she said I was gonna do.” LOVE IT! I wish every mother invested time and enforced wisdom into their daughters like her mom did.
But then, as a mom, I learned something from her, a daughter who has hit the peak of success in her field. She thanked her mom “For making me practice every day when I got home. Piano, ballet, whatever it is I wanted to be. She said to be an artist, you had to practice every day, and for reminding her daughters that there’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love. So, to that trailblazer, who allowed me to have that. And this.” When saying “And this” at the end, she was referring to her love, her husband.
My kids are only two and three but one day when it gets REALLY difficult and annoying to make my kids practice whatever musical instrument, sport, art, or whatever, I will think of silly Sandra and push them to do their best and to practice - to finish what they start and to be excellent in what they decide to do.
I can’t believe I actually watched the entire Oscars last night, but man I am glad I did because I actually gained something from it.
