moving on up
Monday was my last day of work w/my current employer. The truth is, I resigned on Monday effective for today however, in my line of work I deal w/quite a bit of “sensitive” material which basically means they had to shut down my access to their systems ASAP. This wasn’t an easy decision for me to make. I am/was a remote manager and really enjoyed my team and the company. My reason for leaving is simple, I no longer felt that I was the right fit for the direction the company wanted to take their inside sales team. This would normally be a really hard decision to make especially in this economy except God ALWAYS has my back. My BFF (Crissy) 
and I were both offered jobs (great packages) at another company. We fly out on Sunday for a week long sales conference and newbie boot-camp in sunny California.
Changing jobs isn’t an easy decision. Whether you’ve received a new job offer or are just ready for something different there are a few things to keep in mind and this is what I’ve learned this week.
1. Be prepared before you resign. Make sure this is the right decision for you and your family
2. Prepare your workload ahead of time. Once you resign you no longer control the situation. Make sure that you have followed up on everything and you have your work prepared to hand off before you speak w/your boss. It is extremely unprofessional to resign and leave your work in disarray.
3. News travels fast - yep, everyone knows. When I resigned on Monday, in less than 5 minutes after speaking w/my boss I started recieving ims, calls, emails etc. from co-workers wanting to know “what happened?” Keep this short, sweet and simple. This is not the time to air your frustrations w/the company etc. remember these are the people that are still working there and that’s where their loyalties lie.
4. Get ready to ride the emotion roller coaster. Bottom line your emotions are tied to your job. Your job ties into your identity and who you are. I have felt sad, mad, disappointed, scared, excited, on cloud nine and in the gutters so far this week. I’ve run through all of these emotions plus more and it was my decision to leave. Imagine what other emotions you would be going through if it isn’t your decision to leave.
My advise, be prepared before you resign, you’ll improve your chances of preserving good relationships with your boss and co-workers.
I am extremely blessed to have Crissy by my side as we begin this new phase in our lives. Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers (I really hate flying.)
