update on the holidays
While we were visiting Hike’s parents in Alabama for Christmas we also visited the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. We weren’t able to take pictures of the inside of the church however, I was able to get some pictures of the outside of the Cathedral (see below.) I have to tell you - it was BEAUTIFUL and such a moving experience. One thing that resonated w/me was watching the Monks clean the rugs. I know it sounds silly but they were really focused on getting out every spec of dirt. As if a tiny spec of dirt was an affront to God. As I stood there watching I kept thinking this is how I should embrace every chore or activity that I do with the same determination and thoroughness that the Monks do. Something for me to think about as I begin this new year.

On Thursday, the London police said 888 people had been arrested and 371 charged with offenses since the violence took root on Saturday, while the Manchester police in the northwest put the total of arrests there at 145, with similar numbers detained in Birmingham in the English Midlands. Courts in London and Birmingham sat through the night. But, with thousands of police reinforcement on the streets, heavy rain in some areas and residents in some places patrolling their own residential areas, there were no new reports of major violence overnight.
